/Since founding LDV Capital in 2012, we have hosted a range of diverse events – our Annual General Meetings, Annual LDV Vision Summits, Community Dinners, Insights events, and Happy Hours – to gather the brightest minds of our tech ecosystem to discuss cutting-edge visual technologies and AI automation across all industries and sectors, and, most importantly, helping each other succeed.
Our Annual General Meetings are invite-only exclusive gatherings that bring together our investors, experts, special guests and portfolio companies. The information and discussions shared during these events are treated with the utmost confidentiality. We kicked off our event with a presentation from LDV Capital’s Founder and General Partner Evan Nisselson. Then the LDV Inner Circle – top technologists, entrepreneurs and investors – were in for a treat as our long-time colleagues and LDV Experts, Serge Belongie and Rob Spectre, took the stage.
In addition to the enlightening presentations, we had the privilege of hosting two engaging fireside chats. Evan had the pleasure to speak with two special guests: Matt Meeker and Gillian Munson. These fireside chats provided a unique opportunity for in-depth conversations and valuable exchanges of ideas.
Matt is Founder, CEO and Chairman at BARK, a subscription commerce company that serves Dog Parents who are obsessed with their dogs. Evan and Matt's paths intersected even before the inception of BARK. Ironically, Evan became the company's very first customer despite not having a dog of his own. He witnessed the remarkable journey of BARK as it experienced tremendous growth, ultimately reaching its current stage. Serge is a professor of Computer Science at the University of Copenhagen, where he also serves as the head of the Danish Pioneer Centre for Artificial Intelligence. Evan and Serge met in March 2013, and Evan has been inspired by his insights, expertise, passion, and modest genius since the day they met. They have been working closely together on our LDV Vision Summit since 2014. Serge became our very first Expert in Residence back in 2016.
Gillian and Evan have known each other since mentoring together at an accelerator in 2012. Gillian's impressive career started as a camp counselor, then a sell-side equity analyst, head of M&A at Symbol Technologies, an early-stage investor at Allen & Company, CFO at XO Group (sold to WeddingWire in a $933M deal), partner at Union Square Ventures, and then CFO at Iora Health (acquired by One Medical for ~$1.4B). She is currently the Chief Financial Officer at Vimeo and Independent Board Director at Phreesia & Duolingo. Gillian has over 30 years of finance and operational experience in the technology industry, serving in multiple CFO, board member, advisory and investor roles.
While we are unable to disclose the specifics of this year's fireside chat, you may want to watch the fireside chat from our 6th Annual LDV Vision Summit in 2019, where Evan and Gillian discussed the roller coaster experiences as an investor across multiple stages, entrepreneurs at companies, and the impact of visual technologies on businesses.
Rob Spectre is a technologist, Founder of childsafe.ai, the artificial intelligence platform protecting kids from predators online and previously VP Developer Evangelist at Twilio. At our 4th Annual LDV Vision Summit in 2017, Rob spoke about critical components and common pitfalls when turning difficult technology problems like computer vision, machine learning and communications into successful developer platform businesses.
To conclude the day, we gathered for a VIP dinner.
